How they are made:
The art of creating vibrant Bolga baskets begins with carefully selecting and preparing elephant grass. The strands are cleaned, split, and soaked in a mix of natural or synthetic dyes, like onion skins or turmeric, to create rich, earthy hues.
After boiling and rinsing, the dyed grass is dried in the sun, ready to be woven into unique, handmade treasures.
The baskets can also be dyed as a finished product after being woven.
Baskets are dyed alongside strands of elephant grass, making the most of the dye.
